About
Hello! I’m Elise Elsenheimer, an artist living and working in Troy, Michigan.
I like to frame my art as improvisational and honest. When I draw I don’t have an end picture in mind, I go with the flow and trust that the piece will come full circle as I commit to each stroke. There’s no erasing or “undo” option, each idea and line builds onto the next, in the moment. It’s a practice of seeing my choices within a bigger, broader, and more beautiful narrative. It’s not about the individual strokes, it’s how they come together to form something new.
I began to draw during the pandemic as a reprieve from a digitally driven life, fueled by social distancing and isolation. I needed a tactile outlet for self-expression and drawing became very grounding. It’s satisfying to bring something into the world that didn’t exist before and to see what it might represent to myself and others.
By day I work as a product design lead, designing editorial experiences for content management systems.
I’m a native of Michigan, and I love doing the things Michiganders do (Fishtown! Mackinac! Frankenmuth!). When I’m not creating art or editorial experiences you’ll probably find me rollerskating, boxing, or cooking.
